I’m bored with facebook, and not delighted with youtube, so I’ve started this blog. If the inhabitant of Mara Lardo can do it so can I.

My history is relatively unimportant but I’ll refer to it from time to time as necessary, if you know me personally you may or may not find out something new, or appalling as this goes on.

The content is purely personal and my include comments, observations mostly on political or moral situations, poetry both old and new. The rest is as I feel relevant, where my whimsy takes me.

We are at a Nexus, pain and cruelty have always been here as has great kindness. We are capable of both. We have lived through years of fear, decades. it’s no wonder that some of us have learned to make a profit from it.

In recent decades we’ve dealt fear of nuclear war, in my generation, foreign war, also my generation, foreign threat in the last several generations much of it brought on by government meddling abroad and humanitarian stinginess.

In more recent decades our country has embroiled it’s self in wars of stealth, intrigue and subversion which has lead to great harm around the world, so it’s no wonder that we have such turmoil at home.

Beginning before the Regan Presidency the sinister whisper that the government was not to be trusted had begun, and by the Regan years it had become a full blown sentiment by those that wished to “shrink” government for their own selfish reasons, putting behind us the lessons of FDR, Truman and Eisenhower, that good government, reasonably managed can be of great benefit to the most people possible, with currently obvious exceptions.

And so we come to today.

After a presidency filled with deceit, lies too many to number, criminal and unconstitutional acts and a total debasement of the government, we, as a nation the opportunity to some extent to undo some of the damage done.

The Government has in the last 3 decades tended to Authoritarianism and way from our touted democracy, particularly in the last 4 years has it been so obvious.

And so we stand.

There is a very clear choice to be made between the demise of democracy and it’s resurrection. With a full third of the country willing to witness the end of the democratic experiment in the country, an uncertain number apathetic to the outcome as long as it doesn’t affect them, and a great many fighting for little pieces of their dream, where will we stand in the coming days and years?

I try to understand the world, to help me make sense of what’s happening and possibly help others, but in the past decade things make less and less sense. A dear friend keeps saying that it’s my fault or trying to use logic and rationality, and maybe that’s true, but I can’t help feeling it’s the world and not me.

So many folks seem to act directly against their own interests, to take actions that will only hurt themselves, and they seem to do it at the behest of scoundrels.

The current situation is caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and the reaction to it. For what seems to me purely selfish reasons a large number of influential voices have mounted opposition to what should be common sense actions. Use the vaccine that has been decades in development, use personal protection gear for their own and others safety, and other actions that could conceivably get the pandemic under some kind of control. These influencers as far as I can assess, have mostly complied with common sense but they urge their followers to not follow good sense. This baffles me.
